How to Get an Oil-Based Stain Out of Carpet
- 1). Cover the affected area completely with cornstarch, baby powder or baking soda. Make sure that the entire stain is covered.
- 2). Allow the stain to sit completely covered overnight to draw out and absorb as much of the stain as possible.
- 3). Vacuum the area well in the morning to remove the cornstarch, baby powder or baking soda.
- 4). Scrub the area with warm, soapy water and a sponge or clean cloth. Be sure to use a grease-cutting dish soap, such as Dawn. Make sure that the area is damp, but not saturated. Allow the soapy water to sit on the area for at least 10 minutes.
- 5). Rinse the area with clear water and a clean sponge to get rid of any residual suds.
- 6). Allow the area to dry completely. Placing a fan nearby to circulate air over the dampened area can help the carpet to dry more quickly.
- 7). Vacuum the carpet again once the area is dry to fluff it back up.
