How to Get an Oil-Based Stain Out of Carpet

1). Cover the affected area completely with cornstarch, baby powder or baking soda. Make sure that the entire stain is covered.
2). Allow the stain to sit completely covered overnight to draw out and absorb as much of the stain as possible.
3). Vacuum the area well in the morning to remove the cornstarch, baby powder or baking soda.
4). Scrub the area with warm, soapy water and a sponge or clean cloth. Be sure to use a grease-cutting dish soap, such as Dawn. Make sure that the area is damp, but not saturated. Allow the soapy water to sit on the area for at least 10 minutes.
5). Rinse the area with clear water and a clean sponge to get rid of any residual suds.
6). Allow the area to dry completely. Placing a fan nearby to circulate air over the dampened area can help the carpet to dry more quickly.
7). Vacuum the carpet again once the area is dry to fluff it back up.
