How do I Troubleshoot a Charging Club Car?
- 1). Check to make sure the club car is plugged into a power source, if the batteries won't charge.
- 2). Look for visible signs of a problem if the club car still won't charge. The batteries are lead acid, and any leaking acid will be noticeable around the problem battery. Isolate the battery and carefully remove it from the chain. Then replace it with a new battery and try the charge again.
- 3). Insert a hydrometer into each battery's electrolyte liquid if there's no visible leaking--one battery will be the culprit. The problem with all six batteries looking the same is it's virtually impossible to identify the dud. Insert the hydrometer under the cap, squeeze the bulb and repeat to get the hydrometer to the battery temperature.
- 4). Look at the specific gravity reading where the electrolyte touches the scale on the float. You are looking for readings from each battery to be within 50 points of each other at 80 degrees. The bad battery will be the one that isn't in range.
