- 1). Place the feeding station in a location with some natural cover nearby in case the birds are threatened by predators.
- 2). Set a large shallow pan or an open platform or tray feeder up on the ground. Set it on a short stand or a concrete block if it needs slight elevation.
- 3). Fill a large, shallow pan with millet, corn and peanuts and mixes that contain them.
- 4). Scatter some of the seeds and grit on the ground around the bird feeder.
- 5). Set the feeder close to a natural water source, or slide a large, shallow pan under a slow-dripping spigot to catch fresh water. If no water sources are available, install a birdbath and keep it clean.
