    Sleep

    • Get enough sleep. According to the National Sleep Foundation, American high school students often fail to get enough sleep. To make sure you get the sleep you need, decide upon a time you want to go to bed at each night and a time to wake up at each morning. Try to avoid eating, drinking and performing physical activities just prior to sleeping so you can achieve a restful, productive slumber.

    Diet

    • Eat right. Dr. Patricia Fioriello at High School Mediator recommends avoiding snacks and foods high in fat, drinking juice and water rather than soda and eating foods with high iron and calcium content. She also warns not to skip meals, even when you're crunched for time. You'll be more likely to binge on unhealthy snacks if you push yourself until you're starving. Instead, make time for healthy meals throughout the day.

    Friends

    • Don't stress about making friends. Maintaining an open, friendly attitude, dressing casually and taking care with your personal hygiene pretty much exhausts the list of things you need to be a socially normal high school student capable of making friends. If you are having trouble matching your interests with others, consider playing a sport or joining a club dedicated to something you enjoy.

    Time Management

    • Use your time effectively. Sometimes the difference between an A and an A- might mean 10 more hours of studying a week. Decide if single A is worth 10 hours of your time each week. For example, you could use that time to study for the SAT. Many colleges and universities value value a 3.9 GPA and an above-average SAT more than a 4.0 and average standardized test scores.

    Relaxation

    • Balance your study schedule and extra-curricular activities with personal time. Personal time activities can include everything from exercise and reading books for pleasure to sitting down for a long chat about art with your favorite teacher. Whatever you enjoy, make time for it.
