Many people who have this debilitating condition are looking for good treatment for tinnitus symptoms.
In this article, I'll give you a quick rundown of the most popular methods and tell you how well they work.
Many cures are not what they seem and other cures might surprise you at how effective they really are.
Drugs I want to start off with drugs by saying that there is no such thing as a drug for tinnitus, not yet anyway.
Doctors and scientists still do not have a full biological understanding of tinnitus but they are racing to get a cure.
In the meantime, there are still plenty of other things that you can do.
Coping Mechanisms Most treatments that you will find are actually coping mechanisms.
The most famous of all of these is something called Tinnitus Retraining Therapy or TRT.
The background theory to this method is basically that tinnitus is incurable (something that I and others strongly disagree with) and that your tinnitus only becomes bad when you exaggerate it in your mind.
By using TRT which involves counselling and use of "noise generators", you can reprogram your mind so that the symptoms do not hassle you as much and they are put to the back of your mind.
There's no doubt that TRT and other coping mechanisms do help people.
But they don't actually cure your tinnitus.
Natural Cures There may not be any pharmaceutical cures for tinnitus but there are natural ones.
The premise of these is as follows: tinnitus is caused by a variety of things but all tinnitus sufferers have hearing damage.
But all people who have hearing damage do not conversely all have hearing loss.
Why is this so? The reason is that although you need hearing loss to get tinnitus, you also need a number of other "co-factors" to be involved.
These are usually the result of your lifestyle e.
g.
eating foods that aggravate your tinnitus.
By eliminating the co-factors one by one you can get a stepped reduction in your tinnitus symptoms until eventually the tinnitus disappears altogether.
