    • 1). Allow your thoughts to ruminate. You may prefer to sit with your laptop or paper in front of you. You may also find it easier to go for a walk or to exercise. Whatever your preference, find a focus to begin writing from.

    • 2). Research what you are writing about. If you are writing an article on a personal observation, identify what made you feel the way you do and why it made you feel that way. Describe tangible objects and situations with vivid details that encourage the purpose of your article.

    • 3). Compose a lead sentence that introduces what you are writing about and why it is important to readers. If you are writing a creative piece with a story, introduce a sentence that immediately hooks readers and sums up the feel of the story. For instance, Hunter S. Thompson perfectly captured the feel of "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" with the opening sentence, "We were somewhere around Barstow on the edge of the desert when the drugs began to take hold."

    • 4). Write your thoughts on your topic as they come to you. Focus on content and don't worry about grammar or sentence structure at this point.

    • 5). Organize your writing. Ensure your words and ideas flow with each other to move along your topic in a unified, coherent manner.

    • 6). Edit your content to make room for new ideas as they come to you. The process of writing is a learning experience that takes writers to new concepts and ideas to explore.
