For anybody familiar with the Android operating system that the Acer Stream uses, the first thing you will notice when using the handset is the layout of the screen.
Acer seem to have made a conscious effort to re design the user interface, which does make a refreshing change from multiple homescreens.
There is the option to switch back to the traditional Android version, however Acer's own attempt is very user friendly when you get used to it.
The top part of the screen houses three columns, the central one showing alarms, date and time information.
To the left of this is where you find all of your most recently used apps, and to the right is where you can access all of your media content.
Beneath these columns there is a selection of icons that give access to the phones main functions.
The Stream features a very comprehensive phonebook which allows you to enter multiple numbers for each contact as well as e mail, personal address and even IM nickname.
One potentially useful feature is the ability to divert specific calls directly to voicemail.
Call quality is very clear on the phone, whether made on speaker phone or in the traditional manner.
Connectivity options are superb on the Acer Stream.
The handset is an ideal travel companion thanks to its Quadband GSM/GPRS and EDGE.
Locally, WiFi is supported in the familiar B and G speeds as well as the faster new N speed.
WiFi certainly offers the best online experience, this is however dependent on connection to either a private network or a public WiFi hotspot.
The Stream impresses when it come to local connectivity.

1 allows wireless connection to compatible products and the familiar micro USB is also present to facilitate data transfer to and from your home PC.
