How to Make a Pipe Burner
- 1). Buy a pre-threaded section of gas pipe (usually 3/4-inch in diameter), the length of which will suit your needs. If using it for a fireplace, measure the width of the fireplace for the desired length.
- 2). Tighten the pipe horizontally in a vise. Clean the threads at both ends using a wire brush. Apply threading compound around the thread at one end of the pipe, and screw on a metal end cap. Use a pipe wrench to tighten the cap to the pipe.
- 3). Measure several equally spaced marks in a line along the top side of the pipe. Place a hole punch's tip on each mark, and tap the top of the punch with a hammer to create a small indentation on the pipe surface.
- 4). Tighten a 3/16-inch metal drill bit in a power drill, and drill through one side of the pipe at each indentation. Place a reamer in each hole and turn it to remove any metal burrs. Remove the pipe from the vise.
