Guests:

Oprah welcomed Lori and Chris Coble and Colin Goddard to the show.

Show Summary:

"The Worst Day of Their Lives and the Miraculous Twist of Fate" -- this episode of The Oprah Show, brought us the heartbreaking story of Chris and Lori Coble, who tragically lost their three small children in a car accident in 2007. Why did they survive while their children died?

What was to come of their lives now that their joy was gone? Chris and Lori discussed the shock of losing their children, Kyle, Emma, and Katie, and also about how they found the strength to move forward despite the questions, doubts, pain and grief.

Oprah also spoke to Colin Goddard who survived the Virginia Tech shooting in April of 2007 after being shot multiple times. Colin doesn't want his life to be defined by this one experience and instead is working to bring attention to gun violence and the ease of obtaining weapons in America.

Special Highlights:

This episode featured the following highlights:
  • Lori and her three children, Kyle, Katie and Emma, were traveling with her mother Cindy in their mini-van when they were hit from behind by a semi-truck going 55 mph. The accident took the lives of the three Coble children and changed the course of Lori and Chris' lives forever.

  • The couple began counseling right away and worked a day at a time to celebrate and honor their children's lives while also dealing with their grief.

  • The couple decided to have more children with the help of IVF, and miraculously Lori gave birth to triplets -- one boy and two girls.

  • Colin Goddard was one of the Virginia Tech students that were shot on April 16, 2007 and he courageously was able to return class and is now working on the documentary Living for 32 which discusses gun violence in the U.S.

What to Take Away from the Show:

Before sharing the guest's stories, Oprah pointed out that life can change in an instant and that this episode would show that "no matter what you are facing right now, somehow you can keep going" and to let these "stories be a guide to know that life can get better."
