8 Steps to Building an Online Business
1) Pick a few niches to explore. What interests you? What do you know about from work or your hobbies? What irritates you? Someone has written a successful ebook on how to keep squirrels away from bird feeders.
2) Research keywords in those niches. This tells you that others are interested in this topic too. Also, it tells you that there are enough people looking for information on this topic. If there are too many people looking for information, it may be too competitive for a beginner to enter.
3) Go to Google and search for your keywords. What products or services come up on the left hand side, free search, and on the right hand side, paid search? If there are products offered, others are making money there and you can too. Look through the products, are there holes that you can fill? How can you create something that is different?
4) Survey your prospective customers. What do they want and need? It might be different from what you think they want and need. Ask them what they want and then you can give it to them. What is the ââ¬Ëprice of entryââ¬â¢ information that anyone must give them. And what is the ââ¬Ëpoint of differenceââ¬â¢ information which will make you different and really drive your sales? Only surveying will tell you that.
5) Make the product. From your surveys you know what your customers want to know and what they canââ¬â¢t easily find. So you can do the research and write the ebook or create the video that explains it.
6) Write the copy. Again, your survey results tell you how to write your copy to describe your product.
7) Build the website. Now you are ready to create the page to capture names and email addresses. Create the sales page with the copy you wrote in the step above. Write the autoresponder sequence to your prospects. Set up your shopping cart and merchant account. And open for business. There are lots of details here, which I go into elsewhere.
8) Buy traffic from the search engines and send them to your site. You can start by going to http://www.adwords.google.com and see the tutorials on advertising on Google. Again, this is a large topic in detail. But in principle, it is simple.
That is a roadmap to starting your information marketing business. See http://www.ChooseYourMarket.com for more details.
