Time to Decorate the Nursery

Giving your home a new look is always fun.
But nothing is more exciting than decorating a nursery.
A baby is on the way and you want to have the room perfect for them when they arrive.
Here's a few tips on how to do it.
Factors to Consider The best design is always a reflection of one's personality.
But how do you do that when the person you're decorating for hasn't been born yet? Well, there are two schools of thought on this.
One is that you should be very general and vague and just decorate by sex, so blue for boys and pink for girls.
Keep things broad and nondescript until the child arrives and asserts his or her own personality.
Once that happens you can accent or change the style to suit the child.
The second school of thought is to make a presumption.
Now we all know every person is unique.
But every person is also a product of mom and dad, so the idea here is to blend the personalities of the parents into a new personality and decorate accordingly.
This can be a lot of fun because mom and dad may not agree on exactly how their own personality should be expressed.
Each will have their opinion on not only their spouse's personality, but also on their own.
Some interesting conversations will ensue.
A few surprising insights could also result from this approach, making the symbolic act of preparing the new child's room that much more memorable.
Just Pink and Blue? The more adventurous decorators will quickly ask themselves if they must resort to the traditional colors of a nursery.
After all, with so many different styles available why would one have to choose between just two colors? Well, there is a short and a long answer to this question.
The short answer is no, sticking to pink or blue is not a requirement.
Experimenting is a great way to discover new looks and styles, and there's nothing wrong with that.
But the long answer is yes, the traditional pink and blues are best.
There is something comforting in going with the traditional colors of childhood.
It reminds us how simple those times were, and it feels good to provide that security and simplicity to our own children.
Don't get me wrong, it doesn't have to be solid flat colors.
Just because you choose the standard blue for boy and pink for girl doesn't mean there still aren't thousands of styles within those colors in which you can find a unique look for your child.
Borders If you can't agree on a particular wallpaper for the room it might be easier choosing a border.
Borders are easy to apply and more affordable than papering a whole room, so a compromise might be to paint the walls a solid color and border the room with a themed paper both parents agree the child will like.
This can be fun because there are so many borders to choose from, each with its own unique spin on the favorite things of childhood.
From cars and trucks to pigs and ducks - there is no shortage of kid-friendly borders to choose from.
Other Ideas And when you're done with the nursery, it might be time to look at the bathroom.
There are some great ways to make a bathroom fun for kids.
Of course, when it comes time to clean the bathroom, that is one chore that will fall back on mom or dad, at least for the first few years!
