Starting a home based business is easy, right? Not so fast.
Do you know what is required of you? Do you know the fastest most effective way to make the most money in the shortest period of time? Do you know how much time it will take you to be successful? How successful do you want to be? All of these questions (and more!) must be answered by you before you decide.
The first step is to identify what type of business you would like to start.
Do you want a home based business that costs just a little to start? There are many out there, for both men and women.
Mostly these are multi-level marketing businesses.
Do not be confused at the difference between a pyramid scheme and a multi-level marketing business.
Typically, not always, in a pyramid scheme, the only way you ultimately make money is to recruit other people.
Yes, there may be a product you sell, but this is where you should do your homework.
Look really deep into the requirements - if in effect the only way you make money is to recruit, walk away.
There are many very successful multi level marketing businesses that are inexpensive to join and that provide you all the support you need to grow a successful business.
I am sure you can name a few: kitchenware, candles, make-up, gourmet food, plastic storage containers.
How do you know which is right for you? You have to love the product.
Face it, if you want o build this business big, then you should love the product.
Once you find a product you love, attend a party in your area.
Believe me, independent consultants love for people who are potentially interested in a business opportunity love for you to attend a party.
They get to show you how easy the business actually is; and most times they are really easy.
Once you find a product you can live with, make sure you understand the requirements.
Some businesses require you to purchase inventory for sale.
Now, that is not always a bad thing.
For example, some home based businesses require you to buy inventory, but you can sell it for whatever you want.
That means you set your own margins, and if the supply is short then your demand will increase (that equals more money!).
The downside to that is, you can get stuck with a lot of "last years" product.
Most times, you purchase a kit and any product you sell is direct shipped from the manufacturer.
The next step is to understand how you make money.
Understand the commission structure and how you make money.
Read it carefully and ask lots of questions.
You also want to understand if there is a monthly minimum of sales you are required to have.
You don't want to plan that month long trip to Paris and then lose your business.
Lastly, make sure you have a supportive member to sponsor you.
This is most important as this person will help you build your business to suit the way you want it, not the way they want it.
This is also where you take into account your time commitment.
Make sure you are honest with yourself and with your sponsor.
Both of you will be much happier if you set expectations up front.
