How to Get Rid of a Seafood Smell
- 1). Pour ¼ cup of white vinegar into a shallow bowl and place it in the area of the seafood smell. For a large area, set out two to three bowls of vinegar. Leave the vinegar out for 3 hours, allowing it to trap the fishy odor.
- 2). Open windows or turn on the stove ventilation fan to circulate the odor outside.
- 3). Set out reed diffusers or light several candles to mask the seafood smell.
- 4). Spray an all-purpose cleaner on kitchen counters and inside the sink and faucet. Wipe the cleaner from the areas with a damp sponge. The fish smell settles on surfaces such as counters and sinks and requires cleaning to remove the odor.
- 5). Remove the rind from a lemon or orange. Run the rinds through the garbage disposal if the fish smell emanates from the sink drain.
- 6). Fill the kitchen sink with hot water, 1 tsp. dish soap and ¼ cup white vinegar. Place fishy-smelling cooking pans in the water and allow them to soak for 20 minutes before cleaning.
