Paint Like a Pro
1.   As a responsible citizen, choose best quality paints with low or no VOCs. These green paints are just as tough and cost-effective as conventional paints but help combat environmental hazards on account of effusion of greenhouse gases.
2.   Do a patch test before beginning your painting venture. Buy a pint and paint a sample board. Allow it to dry and observe how light affects it.
3.   Paint does not last well in dusty conditions. Wash the walls thoroughly followed by proper trimming and rinsing to enable the paint stick better. Sand down smooth and glossy surface and keep away every spec of dust after the sanding process.
4.   If your walls show any hairline crack or fissure, patch it up. Apply primer (latex or oil formulation) as this will help the paint last longer.
5.   Experts believe that painting is best done with rollers using w-pattern strokes. This process cuts down drips to give a more smooth finish. Always wash rollers before using them to minimize lint. This adds a finer texture to your walls. Avoid buying low quality paint brushes as they might ruin the edges or some intricate design pattern.
6.   Choose the paint type that best suits your requirements. Oil paint, being more viscous and glossy, is ideal for a space with more traffic or exposure to smoke like kitchen. Oil paint has a strong odor and takes almost a day to dry. On the other hand, latex paint is water-based and needs around six hours to dry. However, latex paint often needs two to three coatings for best results.Â
7.   One last tip- Make sure you buy enough quantity of paint to avoid running short of your favorite shade. It often happens that you do not get the same shade if your stock runs out.
House painting is sheer fun when you keep these little things in mind. There is no better happiness than being a part of the creation of your dream home.
