- Funeral home cosmetologists usually work to a photograph or oral description supplied by relatives of the deceased. They style the hair and apply make-up to the skin of the cadaver to make it resemble the description as closely as possible. The cosmetologist may also remove facial hair, paint fingernails and reconstruct any deformities caused by an accident or illness, using materials such as cotton and rubber. They position the body in the casket and arrange flowers around it for the private viewing session prior to interment or cremation.
