    Wedding Hair Basics

    • For a wedding day style, choose a professional stylist or friend that you trust, and arrange to do a test run a few weeks in advance to be sure you love the style. If you color your hair, be sure to schedule an appointment two to three weeks in advance to prevent visible roots in your wedding photos. Unless your stylist instructs you otherwise, go to your wedding day hair appointment with clean, dry hair.

    Ponytail Positioning

    • The height and positioning of the ponytail can completely change the overall look. According to stylist Ted Gibson, a higher ponytail looks more playful and casual, and a lower ponytail looks elegant and polished. Experiment with different heights before the big day, and don't forget to take the neckline of your dress and the style of your veil into account when choosing a height.

    Curls

    • Curls are the ultimate romantic look, making them popular for wedding hairstyles. A sideswept ponytail with loosely curled ends is often worn by celebrities on the red carpet and can be copied easily for effortless glamour. You can incorporate curls into your ponytail by wrapping the ends around a curling iron or using hot rollers. Once the curls are set, brush them lightly to loosen the curl.

    Accessories

    • Accessories make a wedding hairstyle truly special. Although many brides will wear a traditional veil, others will choose nontraditional accessories to stand out. Flowers made out of feathers clipped to the base of the ponytail look romantic, or use crystal clips and hairbands to add some sparkle.
