Social media marketing is the process of advertising or selling a company's services or products through the use numerous social networking websites.
Sites like Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter allow marketers to build and promote their own webpage through the social network's site.
Also, blogs have been a part of this strategy to disperse information about various products and services.
This method usually involves attractive or persuasive messages that are passed on from user to user to increase the target market and also increase the chances of having successful sales.
Ultimately, this type of strategy uses word-of-mouth to spread the information; this result from earning the media rather than actually paying for it.
However, some companies do hire online users with a specific goal of spreading the promotional messages through the social networks.
Typically, these people have many connections in the social network and are always active.
Commission based pay can also be made by the company with the user that attracts more customers and making them purchase the specific service or product from the business enterprise.
Aside from Facebook and Twitter, two other marketing techniques will be discussed alongside the aforementioned sites.
• Social Network- this involves the previously stated websites.
It involves a specific target audience that is connected to the page of the company.
Updates and promotions made by the company are show through the newsfeeds of the social network.
Compared to individual messaging, posting messages publicly allow the company to disperse its ads faster and at a larger scale.
• COBRAs- consumer's online brand related activities.
This involves encouraging other users to upload their own image or video which has the company's product in it.
This is a unique and innocent method because it does not have to be enforced by the company.
Some merchants initiate raffle promos which consist of users uploading their image that contains the company's product.
• EWOM- electronic word of mouth.
This involves a consumer to consumer interactions and advertisement.
Examples of this would be the presence of review websites that allow writers to post the appraisal of different businesses.
Companies do hire writers that are able to write and disperse articles to different websites of blogs.
This modern type of internet marketing has initiated many changes with the process of advertising.
Traditional advertisement has been reduced because of the wide preference for online marketing.
It is a fact that majority people nowadays are connected online through different websites like social networks or multimedia sites.
This allows companies to be able to penetrate at a larger audience which increases the possibility of them attracting customers.
However, many scams have emerged with this marketing approach.
Spam messages on social networks have been reported by many users.
Also, fake or misleading advertisements have been sprouting on different websites that are offering huge discounts or untrue information about a certain product.
Companies and users should always be cautious of how they interact through the social media because many opportunistic people are still at the prowl for many scams and bogus business methods.
