How to Build a Small Boat Launch Ramp
- 1). Determine the length and width of the boat ramp with the tape measure. A boat ramp needs to be long enough to allow the boat to float off of a trailer.
- 2). Measure the depth of the water with the measuring stick. Measure the depth of the water every 2 feet for the length of the boat ramp. Transfer the measurements to graph paper to calculate the slope for the ramp. The ideal slope is between 12 and 15 degrees.
- 3). Contour an identical slope on land by using dirt. The slope needs to match the measurements from the water. Build the slope as close to the water as possible. Place a layer of sand over the top of the dirt.
- 4). Construct a wood frame around the dirt slope using 2-by-4 boards and plywood. Drive stakes into the ground to prevent the form from moving.
- 5). Mix concrete in a wheel barrow and pour it into the frame. Pour the concrete to a minimum depth of at least 6 inches. Allow five to six days for the concrete to cure.
- 6). Remove the frame from around the slab of concrete. Push the concrete slab into the water by using the bulldozer or other heavy piece of equipment.
