    • 1). Generate an idea for what the textual content will be about by reading the chapter title, subchapter titles, headings and subheadings. The titles will give you an idea about what to look for when annotating the textbook.

    • 2). Read the text and pay attention to key terms, ideas and concepts. To remember key ideas and definitions, you can choose the method of annotating that works best for you, such as circling, highlighting or underlining the text.

    • 3). Write notes alongside the outside margins of the textbook to help you record your thoughts while they are still fresh in your mind. If your teacher talks about the idea in class, you can jot that down in your textbook before you forget.
