Stihl Weed Eater Troubleshooting
- 1). Drain the fuel tank or unplug your trimmer before performing any maintenance. Allow the trimmer to sit dormant for at least fifteen minutes after use and before performing maintenance to ensure that it will be sufficiently cool.
- 2). Set the choke lever to its neutral setting. Press the cover release tab on the engine housing and pull the cover from its place, revealing the air filter.
- 3). Pull away any loose dirt or grass from around the air filter. Pull the felt filter from its place and blow out all dirt and other contaminants with compressed air. You can also knock the filter gently against your hand to dislodge loose dirt.
- 4). Replace the filter and the cover back onto the engine housing.

- 2). Pull off the spark plug boot, which is a black handle located near the starter pull cord on the engine housing. This will reveal the spark plug assembly.
- 3). Unscrew the spark plug from its place within the assembly. Clean the spark plug with compressed air or by rubbing away dirt or oil with a damp cloth.
- 4). Dry the spark plug completely with a clean towel before returning the plug to its place in the assembly. Reattach the plug and the boot to return the machine to working order.
