Our body is the greatest resistance we have for an effective workout.
Here are the top three body weight exercises: Pushup The pushup is considered to be one of the oldest and greatest body weight exercises.
It has stood the test of time and for good reason.
A pushup is a compound exercise that will help you build endurance and strength in your upper body, especially your chest, shoulders, triceps, and abdominal muscles.
To perform a proper pushup, ensure that your hands are underneath your shoulders and that you maintain proper body alignment throughout the entire movement.
Push yourself up until your arms are locked and come down until your chin touches the ground.
Many pushup variations exist to help you target different muscle groups.
Chin-up The chin-up is a tough body weight exercise and is thus rarely attempted by many.
This is unfortunate because chin-ups provide an explosive muscle building workout for your upper body - including your biceps, forearms and larger back muscles such as lats and traps.
Chin-ups are performed by grabbing a bar with your palms facing towards you, arms about shoulder width apart (or slightly in).
Pull your body up until your chin has passed the bar.
Go back down slowly until your arms are nearly locked.
Repeat the movement as many times as you can.
Chin-ups give a great indication of your upper body strength.
Once you've mastered the chin-up, move to the pull-up - hold the bar with your palms facing away from you with a wide grip (past shoulder-width apart).
These are extremely tough but will help you build a solid upper body.
Sprint Rarely do people consider sprinting as a body weight exercise, but that is exactly what it is.
If you want to get ripped and lean, sprinting will get you there FAST.
Sprinting is the most efficient and effective exercise you can incorporate into your workout.
Sprinting consists of short and intense muscle contractions by a variety of muscle groups: calves, hamstrings, quads, glutes, hip abductors, pecs, lats, and even biceps and triceps.
Even your core is targeted.
It is an INTENSE full body weight exercise.
Find an open space of about 50m and sprint the distance.
When you go for a run, sprint between certain light posts.
Find a way to incorporate sprinting into your routine and you'll see drastic improvements.
