- 1). Shut down and restart your Compaq computer. If the computer has Windows XP installed, tap the "F1" key a few times as soon as the computer restarts. If using a Windows Vista or Windows 7 Compaq computer, press the "F1" key repeatedly as soon the computer starts. The system BIOS menu appears.
- 2). Enter the administrator password for the computer if prompted. The computer does not prompt for a password unless you or a system administrator enabled the security option in the system BIOS.
- 3). Press the right arrow key to navigate to the "Boot" section in the BIOS setup menu. Press the "Enter" key.
- 4). Press the down arrow key to scroll to "Boot-Time Diagnostic Screen," then press the "Enter" key. Press the down arrow to select "Enabled," then press "Enter."
- 5). Press the "F10" key to save the BIOS changes and restart your Compaq. The splash screen does not appear during the boot process.
