    • 1). Learn how to prepare the skin with cleansers, moisturizers and primers so that it is ready for makeup application. A properly made-up face starts with the basics; skin that is clean and moisturized can help to enhance the effects of the cosmetics. Primer, which is applied in a similar manner to moisturizer, can help the foundation to adhere better.

    • 2). Use foundation to even out the skin tone on the face. Apply the foundation, using a cosmetic sponge, evenly to the entirety of the face. Follow with concealer, applied with a brush, to hide any blemishes or scars.

    • 3). Enhance natural features on the face, such as high cheekbones, with blush and bronzers. Alternatively, be able to create the illusion of high cheekbones if your client's face is more rounded than contoured.

    • 4). Shape the eyebrows in an appropriate manner for the specific facial features and apply eye shadow, liner and mascara to enhance your client’s eyes. Learn how to apply eye makeup for various types of occasions, such as for the office, a night out on the town or a wedding.

    • 5). Line lips with liner and fill in with lipstick. Know how to choose the appropriate color lipstick and liner for various skin tones. Be able to recommend different lipsticks for different needs, such as day or night.
