    • 1). Meet with the Expungement Clerk in your particular county. Remember that while the paperwork is the same anywhere in the state, expungements in North Carolina are handled at the county level, and each county has slightly different eligibility requirements and deadlines.

    • 2). Fill out the necessary paperwork if the Expungement Clerk determines that you could be eligible for an expungement. This paperwork will consist of a Motion for Expungement of Criminal Record, an Expungement Order and an AOC-CR-237 form.

    • 3). Submit your paperwork to the Expungement Office. Remember that requests typically require a month or two for processing. Your request for expungement will travel from the Expungement Office to the State Bureau of Investigation to the Administrative Office of the Courts to a District Court Judge in your County, back to the Expungement Clerk on to the arresting agency, and finally back to the State Bureau of Investigation.
