You may or may not know this, but a good facial moisturizer is an essential tool in your skin care regime.
You may also know, as with any tool you use, if you don't know how to use it properly, then they simply aren't good at all.
You may think that there is nothing to using a facial moisturizer, that it is simply applied after you wash your face, or if your face feels particularly dry one night.
Sure, that is the basic knowledge that everyone knows about, but if you really want to get the most from your moisturizer, and achieve lovely glowing skin, you must know how to use it wisely and effectively.
The very basic reason for using facial moisturizers is so that the outer layers of your skin successfully retain their moisture.
As a general rule, any moisture that is present on the skin evaporates fairly quickly, and that tends to leave it feeling rough and dry.
This problem normally gets worse as we grow older.
If however, you find yourself a good moisturizer, it will keep the moisture in your skin, leaving even dry and aged skin, feeling smooth and oh-so-touchable! The ingredients within your moisturizer (if it's a good one) will do most of the work for you, but there are of course some things that we can to, to help it work to the best potential it can.
One of the best tips that you should be aware of is, always use your moisturizer right after you've cleansed your skin, when your face is still slightly damp.
Why? Well this is because your facial moisturizer's main job it to lock in water, and obviously it can't do it if there is no water present to lock in! If you use a toner as part of your routine, remember not to wash it off before applying your moisturizer.
The same rules apply use the moisturizer when the toner is still slightly damp to achieve better results.
This is because the toner ingredients will work better because they have been sealed by the moisturizer.
A key thing to remember is the face should be damp, not soaking wet, other wise the moisturizer will just slide off.
Remember too, to pay careful attention to where exactly you are moisturizing on your face.
It may surprise you that facial moisturizer's should not be applied to the whole face, avoidance of the skin around the eyes is particularly important.
You can also use facial moisturizers on your neck, start at the base and apply it in upward strokes.
Helping the neck in this way will make you look younger, and people often forget this area, and it can be a tell tale sign of your real age! So there you go, a little guide to facial moisturizers, that will help you on your way to looking younger and radiant!
