What Kind of Lighting for Indoor Stairs?

    LED Lights

    • LED lights rest underneath each stair directly in the center and give off a bright but gentle glow along each stair. They're easy to install and last up to 12 years, saving you from the hassle of changing bulbs. You'll also most likely see savings in your energy bill as you won't need to turn on bigger, brighter overhead lights to go up the stairs safely. Certain LED stair lighting kits are motion sensitive, turning on when the lights sense you approaching the staircase.

    Recessed Lights

    • Recessed lights are a less intrusive and less direct way to illuminate the stairs in your home. Recessed lights reside in the wall along each stair. Thus instead of extending light from the top of each stair and downwards, the recessed lighting emits a soft glow from one end of each stair extending to the other. This style of lighting gives the entire staircase a gentle radiance. The effect is less dramatic than LED lights but still effective in lighting your stairs for safety.

    Festive Lighting

    • If you need to illuminate your indoor staircase for a special event, such as a party or a wedding, use string lights. Nowadays string lights come in many varieties so that you can do much more with them than simply wrapping them around the banister. For example, you can get string lights that cascade downwards along the length of the banister and the opposite wall. This way the stairs have illumination from either side in an eye-catching and festive manner.
