Somehow I have gone from boyfriend status to best friend status overnight.
My girlfriend is no longer interested in me and has decided to break up.
This has come as a complete surprise.
Especially, since we had plans to go to my family's house for the upcoming holiday.
She said that she did not want to meet the family when she knew the relationship was not going to work out.
Instead of enjoying my families company, all I am going to hear are stories on how to cope with a breakup with your girlfriend.
Not that I am not going to appreciate the help, but everyone has their own way of coping.
How does a guy handle being placed in the best friend category? That is the kiss of death in any relationship.
I started to realize that there was no saving this relationship.
However, since we worked together I was going to have figure out how to cope.
Since, I was going to have to see her five days a week, I needed some help.
I good buddy of mine gave me some sound advice on how to cope with a breakup with your girlfriend; He calls this his 3 step program: Step one - do not go to any of your usual haunts.
This will just stir up old memories Step two - do not rely on mutual friends and coworkers.
Since, it was not an ugly breakup they feel like they are caught in the middle and will basically just sit on the fence Step three - start putting yourself first.
Go out and do the things you enjoying doing the most.
Remember no one can help you but you.
I thought this sounded like the best advice I had ever heard.
The best thing was that it was easy and it made sense.
My ex-girlfriend and I are on the road to being friends again, and life is good.
