    Bag Materials to Use

    • Look around the house for old sheets or blankets that you would not mind cutting up to make something new. You can also purchase cloth or other fabric if you wish; you can often buy it at a discount or on sale for very cheap. Choose a material that is sturdy enough to withstand use, but also soft and pliable enough to be comfortable to sit on.

    Making the Bag

    • Sew a simple, large fabric bag shape, and remember to leave a small hole on one side to fill it with your "bean" stuffing. Traditionally, beanbags are circular in shape; however, if you find that is too difficult to sew, you can make a square shape instead.

    Cheap Beanbag Filling

    • Beans are, of course, the usual filling for beanbag chairs. However, if you do not want to spend a lot buying the large amount of beans that you will probably need for a beanbag chair, you can also use packing material. Styrofoam nuggets and even crushed peanut shells can be a great cheaper alternative.

    Putting It Together

    • After you have sewn the bag shape, fill the bag with your chosen filling. Do not overfill the bag. Remember, you will want the bag shape to conform to whoever is sitting in it. After you have filled the bag, sew up the hole by folding over the edges neatly so that the frayed edges do not show. Sew a seam over the folded edges or use a diagonal stitch along the two folded-over sides. Once completed, the chair is ready to use!
