Candlewick embroidery is a type of whitework having designs made of groups Colonial knots arranged in intricate patterns.
This is more of a rustic style of whitework, and was popular in Colonial America. Candlewicking uses heavy cotton thread - actual unwaxed candle wick thread in the 1600 and 1700's - to embroider on sturdy linen or cotton fabrics, and was commonly used to decorate bedcovers, clothing and curtains.
