In our daily lives we're exposed to all kinds of elements that can damage your skin and over time can lead to increased wrinkles that will make you look older. Many factors, such as too much sun, smoking, drinking alcohol, stress, and the foods we eat, all contribute to how you skin will look.
Here is a quick list of some different causes that make the skin develop pre-mature wrinkles, and what to do to fight the signs of aging.
1. Overexposure to the sun. Don't let your face get sunburn! Apply a heavy sun block with an SPF of 30 or higher when going to the beach. For average daily exposure to sunlight a light, sun block with an SPF of 15 will do. Even remembering to wear sunglasses to avoid squinting helps. Keep your skin moisturized, especially around the eyes. There are several eye serums on the market that work great.
2. Smoking. The best thing to do is quit! We all know what smoking does to the lungs. We'll it does just as much damage to your skin. Ever been into someone's house that has been smoking for years? Everything is yellow from all of the smoke residue, including the skin.
3. Drinking alcohol. Don't overdo it! I love a glass of red wine, or a martini or two, every now and then, but excessive drinking, day after day is just plain bad for you. On those days when you have celebrated a little too much, be sure to hydrate the next day. Drink plenty of water and be sure to moisturize your face. Alcohol dehydrates the skin so it needs moisture, especially that next day. Also applying an eye serum around the eyes will work great.
4. Stress. Avoid it when you can. Too much is just not good for you. Do what works for you to combat stress. Yoga, meditating, and gardening are what works for me. Whatever makes you happy is essential to lowering stress levels.
5. Watch what you eat. Stay away from processed foods that contain ingredients like preservatives and flavor enhancers. Try to avoid frozen foods and foods that contain too much sodium. Most of all try to eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. And probably the best thing you can do for younger, healthy looking skin; drink lots of water. Water hydrates and the cells and is essential to healthy skin.
Daily moisturizing is the one thing that you can do to get the most results out of your skin care routine. It is the critical step to reduce wrinkles, and the fine lines of aging.
