Should You Do PPC (Piaf Traffic) or Only Focus on SEO to Drive Free Traffic to Your Site?
Of course we all want a free lunch.
We all want to get people to send us money but we would rather not pay to get that money if we can.
SEO to drive free traffic to your site has been sold (no pun intended) as a way to accomplish just that.
Is it for real? Can we actually get a business to run only on free traffic and just sit back and get rich? Well, not really! It certainly is not the best way to run an online business.
What is the best use of SEO? SEO or Search Engine Optimizations' best use is to create high quality content that people will want to share with others, bookmark and visit often.
Google and Bing have been saying it for a long time but very few are listening.
Search engines want to give people, who browse the web, a pleasant experience and the best way to do that is by offering quality content.
Think of it this way, if you were to drive down the highway and the only rest areas you would find all offered things you were not interested in, would that enhance your trip? Certainly not! The same is true for the web superhighway.
So, when you build your site, build the best rest areas (web pages) you feel browsers will be happy to stop at.
SEO is not about tricking search engines to get free traffic.
That may work for very short time (most times not) but that is so shortsighted.
You want your site to be around for many years and get more and more positive recognition from other quality web sites.
Again, the best use of optimization is to create a very high quality site.
Once free traffic starts to come in, your will want to make sure that your pages offer the best experience and products to that traffic.
Next, using traffic data you will discover new potential income generating traffic which you can optimize through paid ads with Google, Bing and other search engines.
Using the data, you may also want to create pages that pertain to the more marginal searches done on your pages and create new and more targeted pages.
As an example, let say you have a page that talks about purple grand pianos.
Although most of the traffic comes from people looking for purple grand pianos, you also notice that a few visitors to your site found you by typing the keyword yellow grand pianos.
Then, you may want to create a new page that caters to these people and even create a paid ad for these same people.
Should you only do SEO to drive traffic to your site? By all means no! Although we do believe that about 75% of traffic to your site may eventually be form organic searches, you are still missing on 25% of high quality traffic.
Besides, that 75% traffic is never super targeted which means that it will always be lower quality than your paid traffic.
Doing paid traffic through Google, Bing and some other search engines is extremely important to the wellbeing of your online business.
Just as SEO can help out with paid ads, so can paid ads help you with SEO.
You see, when you do paid ads and use broad match keyword you may discover new search terms that you can then optimize on your web site buy creating more pages or just adding to existing pages.
