How to Install an Upgrade Antenna on a Wireless Router
- 1). Purchase the antenna that will be used as an upgrade. Antennas come in different sizes, with the larger antennas having the longest range. Omnidirectional antennas, like the ones already installed from the factory, broadcast a signal in a radius around the router. Directional antennas instead concentrate the signal on a single area. There are several different styles to choose from, and the proper selection will depend entirely upon the needs of each user.
- 2). Remove one of the antennas from the back of the router. Grasp the antenna at the base where it screws on, and rotate it counterclockwise until it is entirely free from the router. Set it aside, since it's no longer needed. The other antenna can be left on, unless both are being upgraded.
- 3). Place the upgrade antenna's connector on the back of the router where the old antenna was screwed off. Tighten the connector by hand until it is secure. The router is now ready to take advantage of the new antenna.
