Oprah Talks to Jon and Kate Gosselin:
Kate first described to Oprah that when the decided to have another child, she begged Jon to have just 1 more because she wanted to know what it was like to not have to split her time between 2 babies - which is something she will now never know. When the couple first learned that they would be having 6 babies, they stated that they both went into shock with Jon coming close to tears - the 2 saw their lives flash before their eyes wondering how they would be able to do anything, support the family and still find time for their twin daughters. While their journey wasn't perfect, it is obvious they are in it together.
Kate described that their success comes from taking each day as it comes and not worrying about what has yet to happen. In the first year with the babies, the Gosselin's had to deal with Jon losing his job and going from 2 incomes down to none.
While the struggle could have torn them apart, they managed to make it through with the help and support of friends, family and neighbors. Kate even shared that when they were worried about running out of paper towels, a package arrived on their doorstep - that when they were in need people would automatically kick in to help.
With the many changes that occurred after the birth of the babies, it took 2 years for the Gosselin's to fully accept their new reality - and to help their twin daughters adjust. Kate expressed that they continue to build the feeling of family and a team effort, to work together as a unit.
The couple described how they started the series with a few 1 hour specials on Discovery Health Channel, which they were happy to do to dispel some of the negativity in their community. Kate explained how many people forget that chose to keep all of their children and they love and want them, no matter how hard it can be.
While the trip to Chicago was chaotic, the couple had help with family and close friends to help them along the way, something that gives the group opportunities to get out and experience life. The Gosselin's still deal with regular parenting issues of discipline and picky eaters but handle them with order - time outs are a norm in the home and the kids eat what they are given or don't eat at all. When asked if things have calmed down now that the babies are 3 and Kate explained - "don't you know 3 is the new 2?"

Oprah Talks to Sean Combs and Phylicia Rashad:
Sean and Phylicia both have amazing performances in the film - Sean shared that he was very proud of everyone and the cast had really become a family. He was also proud of his own acting and transition learning the craft from such talented co-stars. Phylicia Rashad received a standing ovation from the audience for her performance. Oprah recalled attending the play on Broadway with her niece and not knowing Phylicia was in the production until she was told, she was that transformed in the role. Phylicia worked to create a deep character without the stereotype that was present in the 1959 production.
Sean shared that he connected to the role of Walter Lee Younger because of his childhood growing up in Harlem with his mother, grandmother and sister after his father was killed when he was just 3 years old. He described how his drive came from not wanting to see the look in his mother's eyes when she couldn't afford to buy him new shoes. He pulled from the roots of remembering where he started to build the depth of his character.
Phylicia Rashad described a clip shown in the film, where she is upset when her sons loses all of the money, as not about dollars but about a value on her husband's life.
Phylicia took inspiration from prior work which was set in 1904, the year her character Lena was born, to develop the backdrop of her role - the history the character would have had. She took her experience with the time period and made Lena into a person that could evoke emotion in viewers.
A Clair Huxtable on The Cosby Show Phylicia also inspired many people by showcasing a lifestyle that had never been seen before. Sean shared that even he was touched by the Huxtable family and the example the show set for future generations.
It is inspiring future generations that Sean hopes to do with his performance in A Raisin in the Sun by showing that life is not defined by money.
