- You can do something as simple as taking your picture frames down and wrapping them in festive wrapping paper. Just do a few or do the whole room. Garland is another easy decorating item. It can be wrapped around curtain rods or placed on mantels. The possibilities are endless. Add some pine cones or red berries for a really festive look.
You can add a teaspoon of dish soap to acrylic craft paint and use it to paint holiday shapes on your windows or mirrors. It will wash off easily when you are ready to remove it. You can also cut sponges into shapes and use them to apply the paint.
Lights can be purchased inexpensively at most dollar stores and can be strung on mirrors, shelves, mantels or anywhere else you want to put them. You can also get colorful holiday decorations at a dollar store for very little money. Buy a small collection of Santa's for Christmas or turkeys for Thanksgiving and group them together for a charming display. - You can use color easily to spruce up a room for the holidays. Simple red and green ribbons tied to objects give the room an easy Christmas look. Silver beads can accomplish the same thing when strung on items or by placing loose ones in clear containers. Add candles or pine cones if you like to give it even more appeal.
Small gifts wrapped in pretty paper and placed in decorative bowls. If you do not have small gifts you can just wrap wood blocks or small boxes. Throw pillows and small blankets in silver, green or red give instant holiday flare.
Plants can be used for color also. Holiday favorites such as poinsettias can be used or any plant with red or white flowers. Candles can be used in the same way. You can place them all around the room or put them all in one spot for a charming focal point. You can even put your holiday dishes out on display or just simply use red and green dishes and festive serving ware. A large red or green bowl filled with pine cones or any other object makes a great centerpiece.
