How to Make an Opaque Wood Stain

    • 1). Pour 1 quart of linseed oil and 1 ounce of whitewash stain into a clean 1-gallon can. Mix with a stick.

    • 2). Dip a staining sponge into the can, and get it wet. Apply the tinted linseed oil to a piece of scrap wood. Wet the surface of the wood. Let the linseed oil sit on the wood for 15 minutes. Wipe it off with a soft cloth.

    • 3). Add more whitewash stain, 1 oz. at a time, to the linseed oil if it is not tinted to the opaque degree that you like.
