    Schoolcraft College

    • Schoolcraft College is located in Livonia about ten miles north of Westland, just off I-275. This community college offers courses in a wide variety of subject areas, including art and design, cosmetology, computer technology, nursing and accounting. The credits earned in these courses are designed to go towards a degree program at a four-year university. Associate degrees and certificates are available in many of the subject areas, including broadcast communications, music, and medical assisting. Many professionals attend classes for continuing education or professional development. Online classes are available for some courses, which is especially helpful for employed individuals. Students have access to on-campus dining, a fitness center and swimming pool, as well as several student organizations.

    Madonna University

    • Madonna University is six miles north of Westland adjacent to St. Mary Mercy Hospital. This Catholic University was founded by the Felician Sisters of Livonia in 1937. The Livonia campus is situated on 49 wooded acres, with a total enrollment of about 4,000 students. Students at Madonna can choose from 75 degree programs in six undergraduate schools, including the College of Education, the College of Nursing and Health and the School of Business. The university's Graduate School includes programs in clinical psychology, pastoral ministry and business administration. The school also offers a special service-learning program where students engage in community service as a part of their course requirements.

    University of Michigan Dearborn

    • The University of Michigan has a Dearborn campus located about 10 miles from Westland. The main campus is located further away in Ann Arbor. This 196-acre campus was founded in 1959 contains a natural area where students conduct research in the environment. About 8,600 students attend classes at UM-Dearborn. Undergraduate degrees are offered in four colleges: business, engineering and computer science, arts and letters, and education. Many classes are available online, and students can enroll in an honors or writing program as part of their studies. Masters degrees are offered in several areas, including environmental science, public administration and special education. Doctoral degrees in automotive systems engineering and information systems engineering are available as well. Several scholarship opportunities are offered by major companies in the area, such as Ford and Chrysler.
