How to Remove a Timer Dimmer Switch From a Wall

    • 1). Shut off the electricity to the room where the wall switch is located by flipping the circuit breaker to the "Off" position. Do not proceed until you are positive the electricity to the switch has been deactivated.

    • 2). Extract the screw or screws holding the faceplate to the wall over the switch.

    • 3). Pull the control knob straight off the switch rod and remove the faceplate from the wall.

    • 4). Remove the two screws that secure the switch to the switchbox inside the wall.

    • 5). Pull the switch out from the wall and turn to the side where the wires are connected.

    • 6). Loosen the screws on the side of the switch to release the white, black and green wires. Keep the wires separated until you are ready to install a new switch, so the ends cannot touch.
