How to Grow Hydroponics Cheaply
- 1). Place the trailing end of a piece of air tubing into a Mason jar so that the end of the tubing touches the bottom of the jar.
- 2). Rinse 32 ounces of perlite in water to remove any dust from the product. Fill the 32-oz. Mason jar with the perlite up to the mouth of the jar.
- 3). Hollow out a planting pocket in the perlite at the center of the Mason jar's opening. Rinse the root ball of a transplant so that the roots are free of soil or potting medium. Place the root ball into the planting pocket and cover with perlite.
- 4). Wrap the exterior of the jar with tin foil. Plant roots prefer to be shielded from light. The tin foil will block all light from the plants.
- 5). Fill the mason jar with liquid hydroponic nutrients up to the mouth of the jar. Connect the air tubing to the air pump. Turn the pump on to oxygenate the hydroponic nutrients.
- 6). Place the hydroponic system in a sunny windowsill or beneath a grow light.
