Birthday Party Ideas for Multiples
- Two birthdays means twice the presents? Yes, and much more.birthday image by Albert Lozano from Fotolia.com
If you have twins, triplets, quadruplets, or higher order multiples, you may be torn about how to throw a birthday party. After all, you would like to cater to each child's interests, but you do not want to spend the time and money to put together several different birthday parties. There are ways that you can combine their birthdays without ignoring their own individuality. - If you have young children (toddlers, preschoolers or slightly older), you may want to use a theme from one of their favorite fairy tales. Some good options, depending on whether you are working with twins, triplets or more (and depending on genders) include The Three Little Pigs, Hansel and Gretel, or Goldilocks and the Three Bears. You can design the party cake accordingly, making it into the shape of a pig, a gingerbread house or a bear. Invitations are especially fun with a theme like this, especially if you take individual pictures of the multiples and label them each with their character's names, following it with a call to "Come and Save Hansel and Gretel from the evil witch on Sunday, March 21, at 1 pm. Gingerbread and barbecued witch will be served"--or something similar, depending on the fairy tale you choose.
- Once your children get older, they may want to let their own individuality shine through at their joint party. If this is the case, allow each child to choose his or her own theme, and divide the decorations between the two themes. To do this, simply divide the party room in half, thirds, or quarters, using masking tape on the walls, and encourage the kids to decorate their own walls according to their chosen themes. You can send out a split invitation with one line (or several) down the middle of the invitation's front, themed pictures in each section along with the appropriate child's name, and a message on the back that says something like "You are invited to Kevin and Sarah's split birthday party! Whether you are a cyborg or a ballerina, there's something at the party for you."
- One easy way to differentiate between multiples at a birthday party is to give each of the multiples his or her own color scheme. For example, if you have two girls and a boy (triplets), they might choose the colors pink, yellow, and green. On the invitation, dress each birthday kid in the appropriate color and include a picture of the three of them on the invitation. Paper supplies for the party should be in all three colors, alternating, and the cake could be divided into thirds, with each third frosted in a different color. Kids can make crafts in one of the three colors, and they can go on team scavenger hunts, with each team being a different color. This idea is one of the most flexible ways you can make a birthday party for multiples.
