Is Creeping Vitex Deer Resistant?
- Deer don't prefer creeping vitex for food, but that doesn't mean they won't eat it. If food is in short supply, deer will eat nearly any plant. However, deer won't normally eat creeping vitex as long as other foods are available.
- The foods preferred by deer vary by the region and the availability of agricultural crops. During the fall and winter months, deer feed heavily on young trees and shrubs. In the spring and summer, greener food crops like grasses and grains become available, and deer change their feeding habits accordingly. Creeping vitex ranks low as a food source for deer.
- Deer can thrive in urban environments. Landscaping provides plenty of shrubs and trees for browsing, while flowers and other plantings fill in during the spring and summer. Your creeping vitex is usually safe, unless the other food sources disappear.
