Halo Reach Myths Stopped Cold

Bungie Studios released their weekly update as regular. This post was significantly more interesting though. Bungie decided to finally clarified a number of rapidly growing speculations about Halo: Reach. Like what the guys and gals at Bungie normally allow to happen, wild accusations and presumptions about the gameplay of Halo: Reach were made and sustained for several months. One can realize not putting out the flame that will only bring in more green ultimately but Bungie eventually felt enough was enough.

Urk, the top writer over at Bungie.net starts the news out with the usual half-sarcasm and witty notes. Not more that two paragraphs down though, business takes over. The title reads " Halo: Reach Mythbusters" and what came next was fairly clear. Most of these myths and hearsays primarily reside around one image that was released, the only one that appeared to show an in-game HUD.

In this particular image, the HUD featured what seemed to be a pixelated feature that bungie was not keen to show us. This alone triggered interest in whether there might be a new perk or add-on feature, akin to the perk system used in Infinity Ward's highly flourishing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare series. Another seriously discussed and argued aspect of the image was the location of the radical or aimer. It seemed to be more to the left, unquestionably not in the middle position. This inflamed rumors of Natal being used.

Natal is an abbreviation for Project Natal, a codename for Microsoft's new xbox 360 add-on that will allow gamers get rid of the controller and use motion, gestures and voice to play video games. Apparently it would be extremely hard to play a first-person shooter with an off-centered radical that seemed to move. It pays to think over that Natal could be carried out in this instance. Among those rumors there are also some others that were addressed in that weekly update, like the yellow HUD, assault rifle and pistol ammo, being able to fly the Falcon.Needless to emphasize, most of these speculations got squashed one by one by a direct reply to each rumor. Urk tells us that:

Halo: Reach is NOT a Natal title and is being developed expressly with the conventional Xbox 360 controller in mind.

My apology folks, you won't be always leaning to the left nor will you be navigating multiple cross-hairs for various roles. Truth be told, it's simply one of those good old fashioned bugs.

With regard to the pixelated spot on the HUD, only UI text unnecessary for the general public to view was pixelated, but most definitely known by the creator that it would be taken as Bungie concealing a new feature. As for the Yellow HUD, Urk has this to share:

The identical pre-alpha build that didn't feature final textures, geometry or decorators also encompassed one of several earlier versions of the HUD (which even today is still getting tweaked and modified). Right now it's no longer yellow and news sources claim it will remain that way.

What lesson do we derive from this? Take information you see online with a large grain of salt, which means, refrain from believing everything you see and read. Not only can third-parties lie or deal one fact and hype it as far as possible but the bearer of the truth, Bungie Studios themselves, can encourage rumors and hype with the snap of a finger.
