My Garden Plants Have Small Leaves
- An iron deficiency in the soil is a major cause of smaller than normal leaves. Iron-deficient soil also causes the leaves to be lighter yellow than they would otherwise be. Adding iron-rich fertilizers or compost to the soil helps restore the health of the soil and the garden.
- A lack of water in early spring causes plants to produce small, weak growth. Watering the garden at least once a week to keep the soil damp provides plants with the moisture they need to process nutrients and produce healthy, full-sized leaves.
- Plants growing in full or partial shade may be unable to produce larger leaves, especially if they are plants that grow best in full sun. Make sure each plant receives enough sunlight for healthy growth.
