The latest research in Mumbai India concluded that life-long vegetarian dieters might prevent themselves from colorectal cancer.
This research rolled out in 2007 at Digestive Disease Week when medical doctors and researchers began wondering about the relation of eating only vegetables and gastrointestinal problems.
According to their findings, an ordinary person has seven percent risk of developing this particular type of cancer.
The research took place in Tata Memorial Hospital in Mumbai India, where researchers ascertained association with reduced risk of this disease with an all-vegetable diet.
The sample research population was 8,877 Indian patients from Tata Memorial Hospital from January 1, 2000 until December 31, 2005.
They studied the possible correlation between permanent vegetarianism and development of cancer.
Most of these patients eat vegetables because of religious reasons and not because of their weight problems.
There are two sets of population involved in the research.
The first set of population is those who ate vegetables only since birth, which made up of 2,092 patients or 27% of the total population.
The other set contained 178 patients or 22.
4% of the colon cancer patients who became vegetable-eater due to their medical condition.
The research came up with three control groups, meaning they have monitored conditions and environments.
These are patients without the disease with a total of 7,273 patients; patients without colon and tobacco-related cancers, about 1,844; and those with benign diseases, 74 patients.
They analyzed the data using the multivariate analysis considering their gender, BMI, age, and economic status.
In the end, the research revealed that a well-planned vegetarian diet is the key to meet all the needs of the body.
