    Jewelry

    • Christian-themed jewelry provides an opportunity for a child to share her faith with those around her. Graduating from catechism class and receiving communion is an accomplishment for a young Catholic. She will be excited to share her acceptance into the church with others. Christian stores have a wide selection of jewelry. Many jewelry stores also offer necklaces and earrings with Christian themes like a cross or a crucifix. If the child has shown an interest in a particular saint or biblical figure, you might be able to choose a charm symbolizing this person.

    Books

    • Christian books are an ideal catechism gift because it gives the child an opportunity to continue learning once classes have ended. Children's books share Christian experiences, enabling children to apply biblical lessons in practical ways. If you are have a difficult time finding a book you feel is appropriate, consider giving the child a Bible. Personalize the book by adding a cloth cover for protection, a bookmark or a prayer card. You might also consider a combination of the Bible and a blank book so the child can take notes on what she reads and journal her thoughts and feelings about her religion.

    Rosaries

    • Rosaries are meaningful catechism gifts for members of the Catholic Church. Rosaries are strings of beads similar to a necklace, but the beads have symbolic meaning. The beads are separated into five groups of 10 beads, called decades. Each group is separated by a large bead or charm. The front of the rosary has a photo charm of the Virgin Mary, with a smaller string of beads and a crucifix suspended from the charm. Catholics hold the beads during prayer and perform a tradition known as "praying the rosary." The beads offer comfort and ritual during private and public prayer services.

    Relics

    • Relics are historical items that belonged or were touched by a saint, apostle or other holy person held in reverence in the Catholic Church. They include ashes, bones, clothing and personal possessions, and are divided into one of four classes based on their use in the religious figure's life. The items are sometimes associated with miraculous healing or acts of God, but the items are not meant to be magical or considered to have special powers. The items are a tangible representation of something spiritual. Unlike first and second class relics, third and fourth class relics can be sold and are very meaningful gifts for a Catholic who has just completed catechism.
