How to Crimp Your Hair Without a Crimping Iron
- 1). Wash your hair with shampoo, but skip the conditioner. Brush all the tangles out of your hair.
- 2). Section off the top and bottom of your hair with a comb and hair clips if you have long hair. Then, section both the top and bottom halves into halves, leaving you with four sections. Twist the sections into buns and clip them in place. Leave one section unclipped at a time. Sectioning your hair makes it a little more manageable during the process.
- 3). Pull out a 1/2-inch square section of hair with your fingers. Braid the chunk of hair down to the end with a basic English braid. Tie the braid off with a tiny hair elastic. Repeat this process until your entire head is in braids. The smaller the section you pull the smaller the crimp. Tighter braids result in a crimp that more closely resembles a crimping iron; looser braids result in more of a wave.
- 4). Sleep in the braids overnight, or wait until your hair dries completely. Don't blow dry it if at all avoidable as this causes your hair to be frizzy.
- 5). Remove all the hair elastics and undo all the braids. Flip your head over and shake out your hair. Style as you normally would crimped hair.
