Washington State Universities and Colleges
- The University of Washington and Washington State University are the two public research universities in the state. The University of Washington main campus is located in the center of downtown Seattle, but the institution also has campuses in Bothell and Tacoma. Washington was rated 41st overall in the 2011 U.S. News and World Report rankings of American universities. Washington State University has campus locations in Pullman, Spokane, Tri-Cities and Vancouver. It was ranked among the nation's top 60 public research universities, according to the 2011 U.S. News and World Report rankings. Both universities offer baccalaureate through professional degree programs.
- There are four public comprehensive universities and colleges in the state of Washington. Central Washington University has its main campus in Ellensburg in addition to locations in Des Moines, Moses Lake, Lynnwood, Pierce County, Wenatchee and Yakima. Eastern Washington is situated in Cheney and has several other sites across the state of Washington. The university is also famous for its red synthetic turf football field. Founded in 1893, Western Washington is located in Bellingham and has a student population of 14,500. It has been ranked by the U.S. News and World Report as the leading regional public university in the Pacific Northwest every year since 1998. Evergreen State College is a liberal arts and sciences institution in the state capital, Olympia, that was founded in 1971.
- There are a total of 34 public community and technical colleges in the state of Washington. Several institutions are congregated around the Seattle area, including South Seattle Community College, North Seattle Community College, Seattle Central Community College and Olympic College. Bates Technical College, Tacoma Community College and Clover Park Technical College are located near the city of Tacoma. Two community colleges -- Spokane and Spokane Falls -- are situated in the eastern Washington city of Spokane.
- There are 82 private and out-of-state institutions in Washington. Private institutions in Seattle include the Seattle Film Institute, the Art Institute of Seattle, City University of Seattle, Seattle University and Seattle Pacific University. Gonzaga University is located in Spokane, while the University of Southern California, Portland State University and Southern Illinois University have Washington-based campuses.
- There are 55 church-related institutions in the state of Washington whose primary purpose is to teach religious education. The list of colleges includes Tacoma Bible College, Seattle Bible College and Evergreen Christian University. The Washington Higher Education Coordinating Board website also provides a comprehensive list of career colleges licensed to operate within the state.
