The notoriously scary film, "The Exorcist," has remained a cultural phenomenon ever since its opening in 1973. With all the strange and horrifying imagery that came with the main character's transformation into a demon, the movie offers great ideas for scary Halloween costumes. So, this Halloween, find yourself a few crucifixes and a can or two of pea soup and scare the whole neighborhood. - One of the most famous scenes in the movie happens when the demon-possessed Regan spews nasty pea-colored vomit all over the goodhearted priest. The elements of this costume are simple, but effective. All you'll need is a priest costume, and some green-colored concoction. You can use pea soup, but you may not like the smell on you for the whole evening. You can make an alternative green goo out of flour, water, and green food coloring, that you can pour over the top of your clothing and your face. If you prefer your face to stay somewhat dry, apply some green body paint instead.
- For most of the film, the possessed Regan stays in bed, cursing at her mother and generally making a mess. You can recreate this part of the movie by getting a large piece of cardboard that will run from the length of your head to your bottom. You can paint on the front of the cardboard a pillow and sheets, as well as a three-dimensional look of a mattress at the back of the board. When you are ready to hit the town Halloween night, dress like Regan from the waist up, and staple old sheets and blankets to the cardboard while you are between the board and the bed covers. You can wrap the sheets and blankets around your legs or simply let them flow out in front of you.
- One of the creepiest parts of The Exorcist occurs when Regan turns her head all the way around to face her mother. You can achieve the backward-head look by simply wearing your clothes backwards and covering your chest area (if you're a woman) and adding a rump to the front using small pillows, so it appears your front side is actually your backside. Finding a long nightgown is key for this look, because you'll want to cover your legs, feet, and arms completely so that your head actually looks like it has spun to the back.
