  Coming up with birthday parties for the man in your life can be a challenge. Men may pretend that they don't "need" a party, but of course most men enjoy a birthday bash and like being the center of attention as much as anyone else. There are plenty of party options out there that will make the special man in your life enjoy himself like a little kid on his birthday.
  
  

Hobby or Interests Theme

• Base a birthday party theme on your special man's favorite hobby or interest. If he has a passion for watching baseball, collecting statistics about it or playing on an amateur team, decorate in his favorite team colors, and serve traditional concession snacks like popcorn, peanuts, soft pretzels, hot dogs and hamburgers.
  
  If his passion is Harley Davidson motorcycles or NASCAR racing, decorate in the logo colors, bake a motorcycle- or race car-themed cake and present him with a new Harley or NASCAR T-shirt to wear on the day. Check party and novelty stores, including online sources, for appropriate supplies, such as black-and-white racing pennant banners.
  
  

Beer Tasting Party

• If the birthday man has a passion for beer, or even a passing curiosity, a beer tasting party is a fun option. A beer tasting party works best with 4 to 8 people. Focus on beer from a particular region or a particular type, such as ale, or make it an adventure and education in different beers. Have 6 to 12 different beers available for guests to try--3 ounces of each beer per guest. You can find printable beer tasting score sheets from beer-related sites such as Home Brewer TV.com. When the tasting is over, top off the evening with a cake shaped and decorated like a beer bottle cap, keg, bottle or foamy mug.
  
  

Rat Pack Party

• For the older, sophisticated birthday man, or a younger man with stylish retro tastes, have a Rat Pack-themed cocktail party in honor of the coolest cats of the mid-1950s to mid-1960s: Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis, Jr., Joey Bishop and Peter Lawford. Check poster and print stores, or even flea markets, for images to hang around the party area. Use a color scheme of black and white, after the snazzy performers' tuxedos, with some silver and glitter for a bit of Vegas razzle-dazzle. Serve up plenty of cocktails in honor of the booze-soaked bunch, including, of course, the classic martini.
  
  Set up some poker games for entertainment. If you don't know anything about it, get to know the standard hands and play a few practice games before the party so you can teach it to others.
  
  Men can wear tuxedos with the ties undone or suits and fedoras, and women can dress in cocktail attire or in Vegas showgirl costume, depending on the desired atmosphere. Naturally, musical entertainment will be provided by Sinatra and co. as a group and, if you like, as individual artists. Set up a playlist on your MP3 player or burn a CD of Rat Pack music. It's the perfect way to celebrate being a man in suave style.
