Props to Use in Photo Shoots for a Bridal Party
- Wooden signs add a whimsical touch to wedding photos when the bride and groom or the wedding is party holding them up. For example, have the couple hold a hand-painted sign with their names or initials, or "Just Married" written in a decorative font. Or look for a sign with a romantic or funny saying, such as "Happily Ever After" or "We Did." Scour craft stores, home decor retailers or antique stores for signs to use in the photos or create your own.
- Use chalkboards customized for the event to add personal details to your wedding photos. For example, have each member of the bridal party hold a chalkboard with her name or role in the wedding written on it in colored chalk. Or write the wedding details on the board, such as the couple's name, wedding date and location. The couple can hold the sign or you can place it in front of them during group photos.
- Formal wedding photos are often posed. Even the less formal pictures sometimes lack a bit of personality. Once you've taken the formal shots, get some unusual shots with the bridal party wearing silly disguises. For example, give the wedding party Groucho Marx-style glasses and noses to wear for some of the shots. Another photo trend is offering subjects an old-time moustache printed on paper and attached to a stick. The bride and groom and their attendants can hold up the moustaches for whimsical pictures that capture their real personalities. Oversized glasses and sunglasses or funny hats are other options for adding some silliness to an otherwise formal occasion.
- If the bride and groom have the sense of humor for it, bring some tongue-in-cheek props for the bridal party photo session. For example, a toy ball and chain or handcuffs poke fun at the common notions about marriage. Photograph the bride and groom attaching or wearing the props. For couples who aren't willing to go that far, offer some more romantic props that coordinate with the theme of the wedding or the couple's hobbies. For example, if they enjoy fishing or hunting together, add some of their gear to the wedding photos. If the wedding is on an island or beach, have the wedding party wear leis or hold seashells.
