How to Cut Down a Headboard
- 1). Measure the height of the bed with the mattress upon the frame to determine how much of the headboard will be visible above the mattresses and bedding. Decide on the desired height of the headboard.
- 2). Measure the legs of the headboard. Starting from the bottom of each leg, mark the amount of the leg to be cut off to give you the desired height.
- 3). Use a hand or circular saw to cut the legs of the headboard to meet the desired height. Lay the headboard down flat to cut it. Line up the saw blade with the measurement line made in step 2. Be sure the measurements are equal and level on all legs of the headboard so that it sits level once cut. Once the cuts have been made, remeasure to be sure the lengths all match.
- 4). Line up the headboard with the bed frame to determine where they should be attached. Use a pencil to mark where the holes in the frame meet the headboard. Drill 1-inch holes here for the attachment. Attach the headboard with nuts and bolts or screws to ensure stability.
